BMW has produced a great new video to celebrate the Olympics, which are being held in London this year. It was directed by Stephen Blackman, so it’s well-made. The film features precision driver Wolfgang Weber using a BMW M5 to create a mural of an athlete on Pendine Sands. Although it’s just a brief clip, the film certainly reflects BMW’s pride in its role as an official sponsor of the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics. The video also shows BMW’s pride and support for the BMW London 2012 Performance Team.

The making of the film also reflects BMW’s willingness to spend many hours to produce well-made products. The video was filmed on a beautiful beach in Wales, which once held the reputation of being the finest natural speedway in the world. On the day of the filming, it was very windy and there were several intermittent rain showers that delayed the production.

Wolfgang Weber also had to make several practice runs in the sand prior to the filming to determine the exact speed and manoeuvres to use for the mural’s creation. Mr. Weber didn’t seem to mind all the practice though, as he was enjoying putting the BMW 1 series coupe through all its paces. Wolfgang Weber highly-praised the car’s precision and manoeuvrability, and offered to drive in any other films BMW wanted to produce.

The theme for the Olympics this year is sustainability and so all companies wishing to be sponsors or participating suppliers must demonstrate their sustainability capabilities. According to a BMW spokesperson, sustainability is embedded into everything the company does, from its product range to its manufacturing operations. BMW was able to meet the Olympic Games’ CO2 emission targets due to its EfficientDynamics programme.

This programme combines maximum performance with minimum energy consumption. Due to its belief in this concept, the company has a natural affinity for the Olympic and Paralympic athletes. In honour of the BMW London 2012 Performance Team athletes, the company has developed the sporting pedigree of some of its 2012 BMW cars.

The company has actively supported the Olympics for many years. It supplied their first electric vehicle to escort the Munich Olympic marathon in 1972. This year, the firm will supply 4,000 BMW cars to transport the London 2012 Olympics officials and athletes.

Many people consider the modern “Sat Nav” to be one of the greatest creations in terms of gadgets for the car. Others have the opinion that they do a lot more harm than good; let’s explore both of the options here to see who is right!

Against The Sat Nav

The people that dislike satellite navigation devices are not against them for the sake of it. They claim that the devices are more of a pain than anything else and are the cause of serious accidents on the road; surely this can’t be the case?

Although the Sat Nav allows users the ability not to have to stare at a map whilst driving (which is dangerous) it still involves looking at a screen that is away from your windscreen from time to time. Even if you have the voice telling you where to go, the chances are that you still occasionally take a peek at the screen. Whilst map reading was often done when pulled over to the side of a road there is hardly anyone out there that does this when looking at a sat nav. Not keeping a good view on the road in front at all times is only going to put you (and anyone in the car with you) at serious risk.

For The Sat Nav

The people that are for buying sat navs are also not for them for any old reason. Not only have sat navs proved to be incredibly useful for use in their own country but many of the devices can help users navigate across the tough roads of foreign lands too! There is nothing worse than travelling abroad and getting into a car to find you have no idea where you are going. It isn’t so bad in English speaking countries as you can ask for directories but can you imagine trying to navigate the streets of China without a sat nav?

The Voices

Although some of the voices aren’t likely to help you to drive better (Brian Blessed being a clear example of this) some of them are great fun to have on your system and range from Darth Vader and Yoda to Homer and Bart Simpson! There is nothing better than getting directions to an unknown destination from the dark lard Sauron!

There are both positives and negatives to using a satellite navigation device and you need to decide on whether it is going to be something that would benefit you or distract you. It all depends on the person!
